Holidays!

November 18, 2009 | Published in | 5 comments

Nothing spells holiday season more than red Starbucks cups! I'm so shallow, I know, but I await toffeenut lattes every year eagerly since discovering them in my first year.

Also, the mother of all flus harkens the onset of cold weather. I have been bed-ridden for the past 3 days. Well, whatever. I'm so excited to be heading to the east coast again.

Having said that, I miss Chinese New Year at home. This January/February, I won't have celebrated CNY at home for 4 years.

That is a long time.

Hi from atop a small stack of dirty tissues. I am a slob.

N.B this leopard is entirely an entirely "legal" purchase by someone who goes to school there; I am not a random person who simply purchases MIT paraphernalia for fun. It pisses these sensitive and very overworked people off when people who don't go to school there wear/buy MIT paraphernalia.

Homage to the man who literally took over my life from a young age.

Lobster sandwiches @ Alive and Kickin' . That's all they serve. Along with their own brewed root beer/grape soda (which I LOVE). I walked out a happier person, as did R.

We established that you should never ever bring a potential partner to a lobster joint on a first date after watching a date on the next table slowly fall apart as the man pried open the lobster with his grimy chubby hands and the woman looked on in much dismay. I wouldn't mind, to be honest, but does it signal an inability to perform horribly in bed or be a terrible boyfriend/girlfriend if you attack your food with relish?

And.

I FINALLY GOT TO WEAR MY ZOE BOOTS!

(And slowly wearing all the awesome crap I bought from the AA flea market sale)

I walked into LF (completely by accident after I saw a slew of Jeffrey Campbell shoes in the window) and all three salesgirls consecutively told me, "OMG you have THE Zoe boots?"

My heart swelled with pride and a certain degree of smugness.

After about 2 years and a lot of heartache later, yes - I have finally pwned the Zoe boots.

Singapore in no particular order:

Me and my giant jug of sugar cane. Filled me up almost immediately.

T-shirt: Topman; Skirt: Topshop; Bag: Miu Miu; shoes: Gap

Tramped up and down air conditioned shopping malls in my spanking new pastel green and fuchsia French Soles. Was surveyed by a random man from Herbalife. Happily ate taro pies from BK upon arrival because I asked for it and I got it. Sat in the passenger seat pestering the already flustered and confused driver in more ways than one. Went to Mustafa at midnight and admired the shine of gilded Citizen watches in white fluorescent light and almost stepped on a rat in the cereal aisle. First night, ordered 40 satay sticks, 1 large plate of fried hokkien mee, 2 plates of vegetables (because apparently I don't eat anything else, he says), 1 plate of o chien - all for 2 people. We took about 90% of the food away because I can't eat that much since nobody really force feeds me anymore :( Second night, similar story only +3 other friends. Visited the comic book shop and oohed and aahed at the assortment of Lord of the Rings figurines I've been missing my whole life. Paid homage to Topshop Ion Orchard and came out with a pair of bright pink leather brogues I'm absolutely dying to wear but haven't because my spanking new pastel green and fuchsia French Soles are too cute to pass up - for now. Had my first filet o fish yesterday at someone's insistence. I left for home soon thereafter and I felt bereft, for the second time in two months. Sigh.

Went on a two and a half day whirlwind tour of Barcelona, just because it's an absolute tourist trap that everyone must see.

Highlights and lowlights:

- We were robbed of 50 euros before our very eyes by a cruel woman who thought she could gladly take advantage of three Asian girls travelling by themselves.

"You give me no 50, no 50!"
"For fuck's sake, we just GAVE you a 50 euro bill!"
"No 50, no 50!"

The protest goes on for a while until a girl in a Foo Fighters sweater snidely says "Go back to Singapore!", to which we replied, "Fuck you, we're not from Singapore! Damn bitch." I don't understand people who say "Go back to *insert respective Asian country here*". HOW do you bring yourself to say such things without feeling slightly guilty? I blame the parents. I do.

And just like that we had to cough up an extra 21 euros for the bus ride from Girona (the airport) to Barcelona because she took MY 50 and said I didn't give her any money. Not to say we weren't told to be careful because almost everyone who goes to Barcelona has some sort of theft/loss story to tell.

- Food was so-so. Paella was a disappointment. I've had better at La Bodega back home, sad to say. Churros, however, never fails. Patatas fritas, too, never ever fails. Oh, how I long for the glorious taste of the spicy saltiness of a carefully cubed deep fried potato that's been lightly smothered in garlic mayonnaise to be etched permanently on my tongue :(

- Camwhoring at Park Guell.

- The weather was fucking miserable. Kept pissing rain - like how it does in London.

- Buying 18 cents water.

- Lusting over the new S/S 09 Zara blazers. They had every colour of the rainbow!! I clapped my hands in glee when I saw them and drew some strange looks, but alas..there was no time to queue. C'est la vie. You can never have too many blazers.

Photowhoring at Park Guell

My short lived sexual love affair with patatas fritas.

Look up 'decadence' in the dictionary and you should see this picture next to it.

I couldn't help myself =)

Tapas at the famed Bilbao Berria

Sagrada Familia, the church that's been under construction since 1882.

Casa Batllo, famed for its Gaudi architecture.
(Next time I also want my house to look like this)

Back to the grind stone. How reality sucks.

I want macaroons.
