In N Out (of my head)

October 24, 2009 | Published in | 3 comments

I cannot express in words the feelings I have for this burger joint (found only in California, Utah, Arizona and Vegas, might I smugly add). It was my roommate's birthday and we decided to head out to In N Out for a hearty greasy all American burger meal. And because I'd never been, I insisted we go after hearing so many stories about this place.

A 35 minute bus ride, the dismissal of the scent of 15 foul smelling hobos, their deranged comments and a 10 minute walk later, we reached this godsend of a place in the middle of bloody nowhere (Pacific Plaza, 2910 Damon Avenue. Next to some car dealership, if you really want to know).

I have given up caring. I must've consumed about 2000 calories that night.

Double double (i.e double patty, double cheese) with a side of animal style fries (melted cheese with fried scallions atop freshly made french fries)

It's moments like these where I feel it's appropriate to quote Stewie Griffin: "There's an orgy in my mouth!"

Hungary Part 1

Budapest by night. So. bloody. warm.

REAL FOX I FOUND IN A HUNGARIAN FLEA MARKET! £40 ONLY! WOMAN SAID TO ME “VERY NICE!!!” and WRAPPED IT AROUND HER NECK. HAHAHA. WHAT PETA WOULD DO TO HER! BUT MY GOD, THE FUR IS SOOOOO SOFT! Oh, don't I sound like the woman who skins dalmatian fur for fun!

Probably one of the most awesome chocolate cakes evah to cross my path. Strangely enough this was at the New York Cafe, where many many intellectuals have dined and exchanged ideas over a cup of coffee and a cake or two. I think Stalin may have dined here during his reign. I can't remember who else; it was written on the table mat but post-exam syndrome didn't allow me to take in very much.

My most awesome ring I discovered at yet another Hungarian flea market. Does it not look EDIBLE? Yum yum. I have a cupcake one too!

Ah. The bane of my existence. The Hungarian version of 'char kway' - langoush. Just fried dough smothered in sour cream and then totally snowed with smoked cheese. Probably has about 28478 calories but worth every mouthful. This piece of heaven totally redefined having an orgy in the mouth.

So this was in Paris. Probably the only interesting photo I have from my Parisian travels. It's the Hugo Boss display on Champs Elysees which I thought was beyond words because of the stuffed wolf and rabbit - which they'd totally never allow in London. God bless Europe.

Memento Park statue. This is where they house all the statues from the communist dictatorship era - in a barren park far, far away from the city center that required a bus ride through a kampung and a tram ride through the city. Note at the size of the worker's chest.

A traditional Hungarian sweetbread (the name of which I cannot spell but it starts with a 'kos') we found at a fete outside the National museum. It was weirdly addictive despite its coldness. It's just bread covered in sugar - like a sugar doughnut minus the oil.

Ok more later. Gotta dash to college.

Heart Attack Sandwich

Deep Fried Cupcake with Chocolate Sauce and Sprinkles

In essence, this website was made to deter people from eating bad, bad foods.

HOWEVER. I'm not sure about the effect it has on me because these days I've been teetering on the fine line between eating 4 Hummingbird cupcakes at a go and simply not eating at all.

I ate a handful of jellybeans today though, just because I cannot walk into Topshop without perusing the sweets section. In any case, I needed glucose to fuel my burnt out calf muscles and hamstrings after having raped and pillaged Oxford St.

Anyhoo, I digress. To be frank, I'm quite curious about how these things taste. Especially that deep fried cupcake. (Must make mental note to go around to a chip shop to order a deep fried Mars bar).  There's something called Deep Fried Coca Cola too, which is basically kway koh dok fried with Coke instead of with bananas or jackfruit topped with powdered sugar.

Shiok or not?

There is an entire diorama of wildly weird and wonderful food blogs out there, to name but a few:

Eh, Malaysian food can get pretty weird sometimes too (don't even talk to me about tempoyak; it's the ONLY thing I will not eat) - but always in a good way lah.
